Local SCORE Chapter Receives 2019 Community Philanthropy Award
North Coast SCORE was recently a recipient of a 2019 Community Philanthropy Award. Sponsored by the North Bay Business Journal, the award recognizes SCORE’s volunteer efforts to spur business growth and encourage entrepreneurship throughout Sonoma, Napa, Mendocino, Lake and Humboldt Counties.
Supported by the U.S. Small Business Administration, North Coast SCORE provides free business consulting for companies ranging in size from start-ups to large entities with hundreds of employees. Its goal is to grow business and increase employment in the North Bay. The group of volunteers (primarily retired business men and women) also offers insightful business workshops for a nominal fee.
In 2018 North Coast SCORE's mentors conducted over 851 sessions with over 97% client satisfaction. The overwhelming number of business men and women requesting mentoring are individual entrepreneurs with a seed of an idea for a new company. They’re looking for guidance and direction to fulfill their dream and build a business from scratch. SCORE mentors work side-by-side with these entrepreneurs assisting them in all aspects of business – from the initial financial planning to funding and hiring.
Irene Flack, chairwoman of the North Coast SCORE chapter, accepted the award on behalf of the local volunteer mentors.
